Word of the week- PROMISES (21/07/13-04/08/13)

2 Peter 1 4

This week I chose promises as the word. However I decided to do a 2 for 1- 2 weeks for a word. I felt lead to focus on the word of God’s promises. The word promise can be defined as a declaration that something will or will not be done . It also means an express assurance on which expectation is to based. However the definition of promises to man and what God sees as promises are different. Man may promise another man but go back on his word- ‘Sorry, I can not do this now’. We all have heard this before. However, God is not a man that will disappoint, he is not a man that will lie, what he has promised will come to pass. Trust him, have faith, believe and stand on the promises of God.  He can open the door that no one can shut- whether it is your healing, your job, your ministry, your business or your education it is done. God’s promises was true in the past, true now and will always be. Be expectant of the promises that God has given in your life.

He is the same yesterday, today and forever. What he did back in the Bible, he can still do it today. He is the God of Moses, the God who delivered the Israelites, the God of Abraham and the God who healed the blind and the sick. What can’t he do for you and I? In God’s appointed time, his promises upon your life will come.

Here are some Bible verses on promises:

2 Peter 1:4-Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires (NIV).

Jeremiah 29:11-13- For I know the plans for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart (NIV).

2 Corinthians 1:20-For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God (NIV).

Jeremiah 30:17-But I will restore you to health
and heal your wounds, declares the Lord (NIV).

Titus 1:2- In the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time (NIV).

Isaiah 53:4-5-Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed (NIV).

Philippians 4:19-And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus (NIV).

Deuteronomy 7:6-15-For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. But those who hate him he will repay to their face by destruction;
he will not be slow to repay to their face those who hate him. Therefore, take care to follow the commands, decrees and laws I give you today. If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the Lord your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your ancestors.  He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the crops of your land—your grain, new wine and olive oil—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you.  You will be blessed more than any other people; none of your men or women will be childless, nor will any of your livestock be without young. The Lord will keep you free from every disease. He will not inflict on you the horrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but he will inflict them on all who hate you (NIV).

Deuteronomy 15:6-For the Lord your God will bless you as he has promised, and you will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. You will rule over many nations but none will rule over you (NIV).

Deuteronomy 28:1-14-If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.The Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the Lord your God and walk in obedience to him.  Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they will fear you. The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you.The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them (NIV).

Philippians 1:6- Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (NIV).

Jeremiah 17:7-8-But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit (NIV).

Mark 16:17-18-And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well (NIV).

Isaiah 40:31- But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles;they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (NIV).

Jeremiah 33:6-Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security (NIV).

Stay Blessed
