GOLDEN GLOBES 2014- The Best Dressed

The awards season kicked off this weekend with the 2014 Golden Globes. The 71st Golden Globes took place on Sunday with stars both from the small and big screen throwing on their best dresses. Whilst some dresses dresses will be remembered for the wrong reasons, I’m going to give you the best looks of the night.

Lupita Nyong’o

This is my favourite look of the night. Fashion ‘it’ girl, who Vogue named the Top Ten Rising Style Stars of 2014 killed it last night. Her style is flawless and impeccable, she can do no wrong! She turned heads in this beautiful, simple and understated yet daring red cape Ralph Lauren dress.

Olivia Wilde

Amy Adams

The “American Hustle” actress wears a sexy red Valentino gown with a plunging neckline. This is one of the best red carpet looks I have seen her in.

Kerry Washington

She did that! No need to be handled. No problems here to fix. The ‘Scandal’ actress was another star who showed just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you cannot be well dressed. Kerry Washington looks sensational in a light grey Balenciaga gown.

Anna Gunn

There is nothing easier than pairing black and white pieces. Where it gets harder, is when working with embellishments, leather and patterns. Monochrome is one of the trends seen on the runway for this Autumn/Winter 2013-2014 season. Instead of colour blocking monochrome seen in previous seasons, it is all about monochrome patterns and textures.

Here are some pictures:

Check Out The Leather

Checks, Plaid and all things patterns are one of the key trends for Autumn Winter 2013/2014.  I saw this checked top when it first came out and thought to myself let me wait until the sale comes on. When I got to Marks and Spencer, my size wasn’t there *cries*. I looked online and read the reviews, everyone said how they loved the top but you had to go a size up. I don’t know what’s going on with sizing lately, sometimes it comes out bigger and sometimes it is way too small. Doesn’t it annoy you? I paired the checked top with a leather skirt and wine red courts.

The Christmas Wardrobe- What to wear this festive season?

Yayy! It’s nearly Christmas. So excited, to have a little break so I can rest, eat and eat and eat some more.

I thought of some looks for any get-togethers or parties that you may have planned this season.

Take a look below:

Boxing Day Sales

Can you face the sales?

You will need something comfortable so you can run to get your bargains. A friend of mine, has ‘special trainers’ for the sales so she can whip them off and run to try things on lol. I’m not a trainer girl, so for me anything like flats or low heeled boots is comfortable for me. I usually wait until the 27th onwards to go to the shops, boxing day sales can be a tad manic. There is always online shopping- a oversized knit jumper with a nice cup of green tea and I can shop, shop, shop away.

New Years Eve

See into 2014 looking fabulous

For me I am usually casual on New Years Eve. I see into 2014 at Church- the best way to celebrate New Years :). Great praise and worship, preaching and prayers-there is no place I would rather be on NYE. After that,  I usually spend New Year’s day with family and friends. For those who have party plans wear something bright, glitzy, sparkly or lacy.

A/W Guide 2013/2014

A/W Guide 2013/2014

I know I am a bit late, with my guide the ‘Autumn/Winter fashion guide 2013/2014’. However, remember it is never too late to give a few pointers when it comes to shoes, handbags, jewellery and clothing. From tartan to checks to the full skirt, there is something for everyone to love.

Here are my pointers:

Tartan & Checks

As seen at: Celine, Versace, Givenchy, Tommy Hilfiger,  Mulberry & Saint Laurent

Tartan & Checks

Left: Michael Kors

Right: Clements Ribeiro

Tartan is the print for Autumn/Winter this year. Checks were worn head to toe on the runway. Do not be afraid to clash checks together. For those who are afraid of clash mania, try out a tartan jacket or coat or add even a tartan scarf to your outfit.

Where to find it ?:

Topshop Gingham Jeans: See here

The Skirt

As Seen at: Celine, Jill Sander,  Victoria Beckham, Stella McCartney

The Skirt

Left: Victoria Beckham

Right: Aquilano.Rimondi

The skirt is longer, midcalf and  full. The runway focused on femininity, instead of the sexy mini, it is the knee length skirt which best captures a woman. From the elegant sleek pencil skirts to the fifties inspired full skirts-pair it with a knit, flats or chunky ankle boots.

Cover Yourself

As Seen at: Carven

In this chilly weather, you would want to keep warm. With the news of a extremely cold winter this year, why not make a statement with your coat? This year coats are oversized, big or streamlined, boyish or womanly, richly coloured or pale. Coats come pink and sleeveless-there is something for everybody.

It’s all about the pale baby colours. Pale pinks and pale blues, all inspired by the 60s. However not only does pink come pale, but in different variants-dusty berry and shocking pinks.

Kaba Girl

Kaba Girl

Kaba Girl 7

If you are a Ghanaian, you will know all about the ‘Kaba and Slit’. The Kaba and Slit is a top and skirt. The skirt is usually long and there is a matching top. The Kaba and Slit is Ghanaian traditional wear worn by women. You will find women wearing it at funerals to traditional marriages etc. It is also worn by other African women. The Kaba and Slit has been modernised recently where young girls incorporate western styles. I love it when traditional meets modern.

My outfit here is a Kaba and a skirt. I do have the matching slit which I wore for another occasion. However I wore the Kaba with a black skirt to keep it nice and sweet.

Paris Finds

I went to Paris again. This time I did a little shopping. We went to Rue du Temple, there are so many shops. I think its a shopping district. From handbags, to jewellery to shoes-we were spoilt for choice. I found some cute pieces of jewellery. You know how I love chunky jewellery and statement pieces. So I couldn’t help myself and get something!

Opposite Colours Attract

Opposite Colours Attract

Opposite colours attract. Some may think that complementary colours in an outfit is a bit too much. A bit too much is never enough! However you don’t want to be looking like a walking rainbow. When doing colour blocking, try to have two main parts of your outfit as complementary colours and keep the rest neutral. With my OOTD , my complementary colours was yellow and blue (not the traditional complementary colours of yellow and purple but yellow and blue will still work), then the neutral colours was black and white. This still gives you the vibrant look but doesn’t make you look clown crazy.
